Cedarpath Medical Alginate Dressing is an advanced wound care dressing available in Canada. A calcium alginate dressing made from seaweed-derived fibres. On contact with wound fluid it forms a soft gel that holds exudate and maintains a moist wound-healing environment.
When is it used?
Used on moderately to heavily exuding wounds and to lightly pack cavity or tunnelling wounds. It is not used on dry wounds or wounds with little exudate.
Who is it for?
For pressure injuries, venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and exuding surgical or cavity wounds, in long-term care, home care and clinical settings.
Border vs non-border — what is the difference?
Alginate is non-adhesive, so it is covered with a secondary dressing (such as a foam or film) or secured with silicone tape.

Compared with plain gauze, alginate absorbs far more fluid, gels to avoid drying onto the wound bed, and supports a moist healing environment for less painful removal.
